~~ An Antique Reproduction ~~
Ten year old Elizabeth Ravenscroft worked her mid-19th century sampler with fine wool and silk threads on linen. In addition to rows of letters, bands and verses, Elizabeth has filled her sampler with charming motifs, including a large flowering urn, birds, trees, and a folky little couple. As with most of my reproductions, I used thread colors that capture the timeworn palette on the front of the original sampler rather than the brighter threads preserved on the back.
Stitched on R&R Reproductions 30 count “Old Mill Java” linen with threads by The Gentle Art. Worked entirely in cross stitch with the exception of two back stitches. Stitches are worked over one and two threads.
